Armed robbers stormed into Raheem Sterling’s home while his partner and small children were there, it was revealed tonight, causing him to miss England’s last-16 victory over Senegal.

Following the raid on his gated mansion in leafy Cobham, Surrey on Saturday night, the 27-year-old has hurried home from Qatar to see how his family is doing.

Sterling would miss the World Cup match on Sunday night due to “a family concern,” according to a statement sent 90 minutes before the game’s start.

And Gareth Southgate said the striker will leave the camp to travel home, but he gave no specific time frame for when he should return.

According to a family source, the raid may have resulted in the theft of timepieces worth around £300,000.

Locals informed MailOnline that security had been patrolling late into the night while police, who were investigating into the crime, had left the site.

When he played for Manchester City and resided in Cheshire in 2018, Chelsea star Sterling, a father of three, was also targeted by burglars.

But as the alarm went off, the gang fled in terror and fled empty-handed.

Sterling has been keen to play a crucial role in England’s bid to win the World Cup for the first time since 1996, and his reason for leaving the rest of the team to travel was the well-being of his family. However, it is unknown if and when Sterling will return to the England camp.

Sterling’s priority is to be with his family, according to Southgate, who revealed this following the Three Lions’ triumph against Senegal.

‘We’re going to support that and leave him to have as much time as he needs.

‘He’s going home. I don’t want to put him under pressure. Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing, family should come first.’

Sterling has three children: his daughter, and eldest, Melody Rose, as well as two sons, Thiago and Thai.

England’s captain, Harry Kane, added: ‘Our thoughts are with him and his family. It’s a private matter but it’s never easy to see one of your teammates and friends deal with something like that.

Oh my God,this is so scary. I hope his famil is doing okay.

Love to hear from you
