People have mixed feelings with Halle Bailey as Ariel

Okay so,since singer and actress,Halle Bailey was cast as Disney mermaid ,Ariel, the internet have been on a frenzy with people hash tagging “NotmyAriel” while some a okay with it as long as they dye her hair red (since Ariel is a red head).

The original actress who voiced Ariel in Disney’s 1989 animated fantasy film “The Little Mermaid,Jodi Benson aired her views to USA Today on the matter; “I think the most important thing is to tell the story. We have, as a family, raised our children and for ourselves that we don’t see anything that’s different on the outside. I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters. What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart and their spirit is what really counts.”

“We need to be storytellers,” Benson continued. “And no matter what we look like on the outside, no matter our race, our nation, the colour of our skin, our dialect, whether I’m tall or thin, whether I’m overweight or underweight, or my hair is whatever colour, we really need to tell the story.”

To be honest,i really don’t see the big deal, though the characters look different,Halle have a good voice that should be suitable. And as long as she delivers her role well and see no issue in that. Also, that Ariel is a fictional character and should be played by anyone.
I also get why people find it weird since is a live action movie of the actual story and Halle is no red head with blue eyes – it would have been fair if they chose someone that looks like her and can deliver the story well.

This also calls for disney to create an original movie for black characters and stop making them act what have already been done. That way you are changing the game and not causing a lot of contorversies on race… Anyways,Congratulations Halle,I’m sure you will do a great job.

Love to hear from you
