Kanye West is facing a copyright lawsuit for ‘Life of the Party’

Kanye WestA new copyright lawsuit has been filed against Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, alleging that his song “Life of the Party” illegally appropriates a Boogie Down Productions work.

Phase One Network Inc. filed a lawsuit against Ye and his former record company Universal Music Group on Monday in New York federal court, claiming ownership of the copyright of Boogie Down’s “South Bronx.” A melody, a drum part, and horn hits from Boogie Down’s song are allegedly “perfect reproductions” in the song “Life of the Party,” according to the lawsuit.

The musician, designer, and businessman popular album “Donda,” which was released in November, included the deluxe edition of the song “Life of the Party,” which features Outkast rapper André 3000.

Following antisemitic remarks he made earlier this year, many business partners and attorneys have severed connections with Ye.
