LGBT community threatened Love Victor actor, Michael Cimino

Michael Cimino

You know, I just finished binge watching Love Victor and I’m really glad I saw the show before I googled the actor, Michael Cimino. Because he was really great in the series – a spin off of the movie  “Love, Simon”.

Like when season two ended I was pretty bummed, I had to find out if there would be a season three (Yes and Yes!)

Okay so, the LGBT community are coming after the adorable actor for playing the role since he is not gay and i don’t think that is fair .

In a new interview with Attitude, the 21-year-old (so young ugh) revealed he received death threats from the LGBT community ; “Honestly, it wasn’t really a thought in my circle not to even play these characters.”

“I’ve definitely had some criticism from the LGBT community for being in the role… I’ve had death threats, which is horrible. But the show is important to me. The messages of hate— I came into it knowing that would happen, regardless of how good I was,” he added.

“But there are some straight actors who play gay characters, who are all about supporting LGBT rights while they’re promoting their project, but once they’re done, a year later, it’s kind of forgotten.”

“That’s not how [to] be an ally, that’s not how you support LGBT rights. If you’re not an actual ally, then what are you doing?”

“It’s an honour to play Victor, and a big responsibility. I went in with the pure intent to represent that correctly,” he said. “I held myself to a really high standard to make sure everyone going through this story felt represented by the show.”

Honestly, I think they should give him a break, he did a brilliant job in Love Victor and besides its called acting. You not wanting Michael (a straight guy) to play gay role is like saying you want a real pirate to play Pirates of the Caribbean or the Queen to play The Crown.

These actors are just representatives and as long as they pass the message in a glaring and beautiful light, i don’t see the harm.

Have you ever wondered if an actual gay person auditioned for the role and didn’t do well? Death threats??? that’s really harsh! And a negative reaction from people constantly seeking acceptance and preaching against hate.

PS:Michael ,you sure you are not gay though? Cause damn you did a fine job. All the best in the next season.

Love to hear from you
