Selena Gomez have been open about her battle with lupus since she made the revelation in 2015.And in September this year,the 25-year-old announced that she received a Kidney transplant from actress friend,Francia Raisa  due to complications. Selena and Raisa sat down for an interview with Savannah Guthrie on Today’s show to discuss the experience. Selena said;

“My kidneys were just done,” . “That was it, and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. The thought of asking someone to do that was really difficult for me. She volunteered and did it. And let alone someone wanting to volunteer, it is incredibly difficult to find a match. The fact that she was a match, I mean that’s unbelievable. That’s not real.”

Francia said;
“One day she came home and she was emotional. I hadn’t asked anything. I knew she hadn’t been feeling well,”  “She couldn’t open a water bottle one day. She chucked it and she started crying. And I said, ‘What’s wrong?’ and that’s when she told me. And she goes, ‘I don’t know what to do. The list is seven to ten years long.” “It just vomited out of me: I was like, ‘Of course I’ll get tested.’”

“I had to write a will, which was scary because there’s no guarantee I’ll wake up,” Raisa said.

Raisa went into surgery first and everything went well. Gomez also woke up from her procedure feeling fine but realized an excruciating pain as she tried to nap.Doctors told Gomez that she would have to go back into surgery, as her new kidney was turning around inside her body.

“My teeth were like grinding, I was freaking out,”  “It was a six hour surgery that they had to do on me, and the normal kidney process is actually two hours.” -Gomez explained.
 “Apparently one of the arteries had flipped. I’m very grateful that there are people who know what to do in that situation.

Thank God for her life and a beautiful friend like Francia.

Better and better: Gomez (above with raisa after the transplant) was battling Lupus and arthritis before receiving the transplant, and has said both conditions improved afterwards and she now has more energy
