Singer and actress,Denise Matthews passed away on monday at a hospital in Fremont, California from compilations of longstanding kidney issues. Denise whose stage name is Vanity began her career as a model but after meeting Prince at the 1980 American Music Awards, she launched a music and acting career. She dated Prince for two years and the music icon helped launch her group,Vanity 6 , produced and wrote most of their 1982 self-titled debut.
Vanity renounced her worldly lifestyle and became a christian minister.
"When I was Vanity, it was all about me," Denise said in 1999. "But when I'm preaching the word of God, it's Jesus Christ speaking through me. I don't want people to know who I was back then, but the new creature that God has made me."

“Can I tell you a story about Vanity? Or should I tell you a story about Denise?” he said at one point. “Her and I used to love each other deeply. She loved me for the artist I was, I loved her for the artist she was trying to be. She and I would fight. She was very headstrong ‘cause she knew she was the finest woman in the world. She never missed an opportunity to tell you that.”
She married former Oakland Raider Anthony Smith in 1995 and they divorced the next year.
